Our Story
Habitat for Humanity of Harrison County (HFHHC) was formed in 2000 by a group of Community leaders from Community Services, Business Enterprises, Financial Institutions, and Church related organizations, to address the needs of Harrison County related to affordable housing. The organizing members decided to embrace the proven Mission of Habitat for Humanity International as a qualified affiliate. We have been operating since our inception, under those guidelines.
HFHHC has built fifteen homes within Harrison County since our inception. Fulfillment of our Mission to offer qualified Partners a “Hand up, not a Hand Out”; and to provide a “decent, affordable place to live” to our qualified Partners, has been the goal.
We have built an average of one home each year. These homes serve the housing needs of Partner families throughout Harrison County. Habitat has Partner families residing in Laconia, Lanesville, Corydon, and Palmyra.
Habitat homes are made possible through the generous support of the entire Community. Suppliers and contractors provide us with donated, or discounted material and labor. Many individuals donate time, expertise, and funding to make our homes as affordable as possible.
Funding is derived from several sources. Cash donations and volunteer labor are essential to serving our Partners. Payments received from existing Partners provides additional funding for future homes, as well. HFHHC sells our homes to our Partners. We are an Equal Housing Lender under strict guidelines established by the Federal Government. Learn more about frequently asked questions by clicking here.
